Walton Heath Winter Meeting
17 Members and 8 Guests assembled on a gloriously sunny winter’s day at Walton Heath on 30th November. The weather before and after the event was hideous with the greens flooded the following day.
The Old Course was in remarkably good condition considering the recent rains and for many the greens were a pleasure to putt on.
The host, Jeremy Waud, managed to accumulate 38 points to win the Members Cup. John Fraser & Will Carroll both finished with 33 points.
Our guests contrived to upstage their hosts with some high quality golf and incredible scoring. Charles Oakley had the round of his life was 1 over par playing off 11 to score 46 points. Bill Wilcox, who was playing in the first group, must have thought his 41 points would have been good enough. Andy MacFarlane put up a stern defence with 39 points.
Andy MacFarlane had the consolation of winning nearest the pin at the 7th and Bill Wilcox won the Longest Drive with a monumental strike on the 14th.
Alex Fleet managed to wrest the Douglas Henderson Trophy (best 2 scratch scores) from Dan Burstow with 66 points.
We were joined by Keith Jenkin, Simon Clapham and Roger Goodacre for a splendid lunch in the Fowler Room.
A few of us then retired to Waudo’s wine cellar to taste some excellent vintages. A good day was had by all and next year has been booked for 29th November.
