Spring Meeting West Sussex GC 8th May 2019

18 OJ’s and 3 guests met at West Sussex GC on a very wet and breezy May morning. As a result of the adverse morning weather forecast, it was decided to play the foursomes in the morning and reduce this to a 9 hole competition. The afternoon weather was much better and a dry 18 hole Stableford competition for the Gibbs Cup was played.

This was won by Alex Fleet off 7 handicap with a score of 42 points, and a gross score of 71 which also won him the scratch prize. The runner up was our Hon Sec, Graham Negus, with 40 points playing off 26.

The Presidents Cup for the best Senior score was won by Nick Budge with 37 points off 11 handicap.

In the Foursomes 9 hole competition for the Petherbridge Bowl, John Waterfall and Jeremy Waud were the winners with 18 points with runners up Dan Burstow and Ed Welch with 17 points.

The Society was pleased to welcome 3 guests for the day with the singles prize going to Iain Morgan with 30 points and the foursomes to Graham Negus and his guest Steve Smith with 18 points.

Despite the adverse weather the West Sussex course was as spectacular as ever with superb greens. Their staff were most helpful at accommodating our changes of plan for the day and laying on an early lunch.

Prizes for the day were provided by the Waud Wine Co.

We all look forward to returning to West Sussex in 2020 when their clubhouse extension will be complete.
