” Hurstpierpoint came in fourth place out of eight schools , Ardingly, Clifton, Dulwich, Marlborough, Millfield, St Paul’s, Winchester, in the annual Schools Putting Competition played at Royal Wimbledon on Wednesday 5th June. The event takes the format of eight schools per evening over four evenings with the top two schools each evening qualifying for next week’s final and the bottom two schools each evening being relegated from the event for two years, allowing schools on the waiting list to re-enter the event.

The Hurst team of Chris Hobbs, Dan Burstow, Christian Wimshurst, and Rob Huxford scored a total of 32 points ( 2 points for a Win, 1 point for a Half ) with Dan and Christian our top scorers with 9 points each. Good results also from Chris and Rob, the latter making his debut in this event with four wins. Top scoring school for the evening was St Pauls with 38 points with Dulwich and Marlborough tied for second with 36.

It was a dry sunny evening, with a lot of jovial banter with the many Hewitt players in the various teams and the evening was rounded off with a curry, strawberries and cream and a Rioja wine over supper in the clubhouse afterwards.”
