Royal Wimbledon Putting & RAC Meeting
Schools Putting Competition at Royal Wimbledon 6th June 2019
The OHJGS team of Jeremy Waud, Dan Burstow, Christian Wimshurst and Will Carroll competed against seven other schools in this annual putting event with eight different schools competing over four evenings, two per evening going through to the Final and two schools per evening facing relegation. A testing 18 hole layout had been drawn up for the evening on what is probably one of the largest putting greens in the country.
Against tough opposition, Hurst finished in sixth place with 24 points . Eton and Marlborough were in first and second place with 39 and 34 points with Mill Hill and Tonbridge relegated with 19 and 16 points. Jeremy was our top scorer. Other schools competing in the same evening were Dulwich, Haileybury and Millfield.
This dry sunny evening was rounded off with a curry supper in the clubhouse and several glasses of red wine.

RAC Meeting 7th June.
As a great contrast to the blue skies the day before at Royal Wimbledon, 10 players assembled at the RAC in Epsom the following day under leaden skies containing plenty of moisture.
Our Treasurer, decided against getting wet as he was travelling to Spain the following day, which left 9 hardy souls to take on the Old Course. Martin Greensted, a member at the Nevill GC, decided that at the age of 76 it was time he attended an OHJGS Meeting. Welcome Martin.
We had 3 other RAC “virgins” namely Andrew Heath, Matt Isepp & Simon Warrender.
Despite the wet weather, your Secretary managed to utilise his local knowledge to score 34 points closely followed by Will Carroll with 31 points.
A relaxed lunch was had in the Fountain which concluded at 4.30 pm.
Hopefully the weather will be better next year.
