Royal Wimbledon Putting Competition

On 7th June Captain Rob McCowen assembled his chosen team of four OHJGS putters for this popular annual event that has 4 qualifying nights before next weeks final.

In the annual schools putting event at Royal Wimbledon, in which 32 schools compete over four evenings, Hurstpierpoint has made it through to the Final eight schools. Our team playing on Wednesday evening consisted of two experienced players in this event, Jeremy Waud and Dan Burstow and two new comers to the event, Charlie Parsons and Joe White.

We played against Wellington, Tonbridge, Shrewsbury, Sherborne, Radley, KCS Wimbledon and Bradford Grammar, finishing in second place for the evening behind KCS Wimbledon. The Final is played on Thursday 15th June.

Jeremy Waud and Joe White were our top scorers for the evening, both were undefeated over seven rounds and with strong team support from Dan and Charlie.

The evening rounded off with the traditional curry supper in the clubhouse washed down with a bottle of Rioja, which this year was not only not corked (see 2021 report!) but was also lovely…

Our team for the finals has been selected as Dan Burstow, Joe White, Alex Fleet and Chris Hobbs – a formidable line up! – good luck guys.
