Old Eastbournian Annual Match Results

We enjoyed our 32nd annual fixture at Walton Heath against our friends from Eastbourne College, 11 old boys and one school Mum, Iryana isn’t too hard to pick out in the picture!

the match was very tight and all 24 golfers had the pleasure of teeing off with the harry Gibbs Sussex 2 Iron that came into our possession via Dudley Stratford – can he enlighten us further please?

Our solid opening pair of Stephen Waud and Simon Clapham were edged out by Chris walker and Ian Henley. In string two President Rob Mc Cowen partnered Jon Cheney on his visit from Perth, and they delivered a solid win by a margin of 2/1. Past Captain Matt Isepp and debutante Mark Baldock were defeated narrowly, leaving  the under the weather Jeremy Waud and Walton Heath stand in Julian Jones to edge a win in match 4 to bring matters all square. In match 5 Rick Holgate and secretary Graham Negus were put off by the beauty of the opposition and clearly were not focussed on their putting lines! – they went down dreaming 3/2. Our anchor pair of ‘Austin Powers’ and ‘Pescatarian Ed’ were just too strong and their 5/4 win brought home the dignity of a halved match!

The proceedings closed with a fabulous meal of hand made braised beef ravioli with tomato and basil infusion, followed by slow cooked Confit of Duck leg, with celeriac puree, glazed carrots, fondant potatoes, orange and cherry jus. we finished with an orange and white chocolate cheesecake with edible flowers – all gorgeous… Grace we succinctly delivered by Eastbourne match manager Hugh Price.

this is a fantastic, fun and sociable match and we look forward to our next encounter at Walton Heath in April 2025
