OHJGS v Old Eastbournians at Walton Heath

We enjoyed a bright but cold afternoon at Walton Heath for our 24th consecutive match in the friendly series for the coveted Sussex 2 Iron. OE stand in Captain Peter Jamieson did a sterling job in mustering a strong team – they even had two more players than were needed……. That appears to have been a slight communication issue!

The end result in our nail biting encounter saw our Captain Graham Negus paired with IPC John Fraser clinching a critical half in the last match to bring home a Hurst win by 2.5 to 1.5 against Will Thornton and Charles Oakley.

First out were Jeremy Waud and the on fire Paul Ruddlesdin winning 3/2 against Paul Wickman and Ben Borrows.

The second match saw Dan Burstow and Roger Goodacre take on David Burt and the quality player in the field, 1 handicap Mark Justice who carded a one under 71 no less! – a tight game and we were edged out 2/1.

Third string was Rick Holgate and new boy Mike Joly, they returned a sound 3/2 win against Walton Heath members Brian Meaby and Hugh Price.

As always a fun match played in the right spirit  with much fun and laughter over dinner to finish.

Next year is the 25th anniversary of this match and it will be marked with an all day match with a lunch and the opportunity for players to play one or two rounds – details to follow.
