OHJGS v OA’s at Porters Park

The Society managed a whitewash of the Aldenhamians at Porters Park GC Radlett on 10th October on a glorious autumn afternoon.

John Fraser selected a very experienced team with two octogenarian former Presidents of the Society playing their part.

Patrick McGahan and his partner Larry Lawson (G) led the team off and put some blue on the board early on and achieved a comfortable 5&4 victory over OA’s Captain Martin Jeens and David Vezey.

Out next were Fraser & Negus. Having lost the first hole they levelled at the second and were never behind again in their match against Ian Iggleden and Neil Melville. A fine round of dovetailing resulted in a 4&2 victory.

The Blackmoor pairing of Dudley Stratford and Nick Budge were behind for most of their match against Mark Weatherhead and Paul Yule. However, a late spurt of 4 holes on the trot enabled them to come out with a 3&1 victory.

Our final pair of Rick Holgate and the ever spritely 87 year old Keith Jenkin achieved a fine 2&1 victory in a tight match with Ian Dowdeswell and John Yule.

We enjoyed a wholesome supper in the clubhouse where we were joined by Raymond Gee who presented the recently rescued trophy to John Fraser.

There is a possibility that next year we will change this fixture slightly and take part in a quadrangular competition at Porters Park alongside the Aldenhamians, Mill Hill and The Leys. A subject to discuss at next month’s committee meeting.

Our thanks to Martin Jeens and all at Porters Park for hosting us.
