OHJGS Spring Meeting

The OHJGS Spring Meeting was held on Wednesday 9th May at West Sussex Golf Club in glorious sunshine and with the course in superb condition. The turnout was high with 24 players in total with 15 OJs and 9 guests.
In the morning Stableford Singles for the Gibbs Cup, the winner was Dan Burstow, playing off 3 handicap, with 37 points after a three-way countback, and recording a 2 over par gross 72. The runner up was John Fraser, playing off 18 handicap, also with 37 points and recording a 16 over par score. Jeremy Waud playing off 5, was in third place also with 37 points, losing out on the last 9 count back.
Dan also qualified as the winner of the Scratch Prize for the morning. John Fraser won the Presidents Tankard for the best senior round.
The guest prize for the morning was won by James Purvis, playing off 10 handicap, with 40 points and a gross score of 78. The runner up was Adam Cairns with 37 points.

In the afternoon foursomes, playing for the Petherbridge Bowl, the winners were Ed Welch and John Fraser with 35 points. The runners up were Dudley Stratford and Derick Fulcher with 31 points. The Guest Foursomes were won by Jim Ludden and Andrew Woosey with 30 points after a countback from Simon Henkel and his guest James Purvis, also with 30 points.
The prizes, in addition to the silverware and golf balls, were wines generously provided by the Waud Wine Club.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, professionally organised by our match manager and President, Rob McCowen, with an excellent lunch together with tea and drinks on the terrace in the early evening at this delightful golf club – anyone who has not enjoyed the treat of West Sussex GC should definitely put it in the diary for next year – even the guests are rebooking!
PS. Date for next year is 8th May so no excuses for not having advanced warning. Rob has been elected Match Manager for the next 5 years with an option to extend the term!
