OHJGS qualify for Putting Final

On a warm June evening, the 3 man team (reduced due to Covid) of Jeremy Waud, Dan Burstow and IPPC Christian Wimshurst secured one of eight places in the Final to be played at Royal Wimbledon on Thursday 17th June. 32 schools compete over 4 evenings with the best 2 each evening qualifying for the Final.

Dan Burstow was our top scorer with 10 points over 7 matches against Ampleforth, Canford, Stowe, Charterhouse, Dulwich, The Leys and Felsted. With 2 points for a win and 1 for a half, Hurstpierpoint totalled 25 points with Charterhouse the front runner.

The evening was rounded off with a curry supper in the Clubhouse and a bottle of Rioja (only 1? Ed) sadly deemed to be corked. This didn’t dampen the elation of reaching the Final for the first time since 2009.

The Finalists are Charterhouse, Westminster, KCS Wimbledon, Merchant Taylor’s, St Paul’s, Kings Taunton, Marlborough and Hurstpierpoint.

We wish the team well in the Final next week.
