Match against Old Eastbournians – 24th April 2019
We enjoyed a great match against our old friends from Eastbourne at Walton Heath on 24th April.
After some administrative confusion we fielded 11 players and the OE’s turned up with the required 12, this sadly meant that Steve Waud played a single at the back of the field and succumbed to the combined efforts of the OE match manager Hugh Price, seen below with the Sussex 2 Iron, and his partner. His Latin pre-dinner Grace was nearly as tidy as his putting apparently!
the match was played in its usual friendly manner but we were eventually nudged out by 2.5 to 3.5 points, our winners being George Atkins with Alex Fleet and Jeremy Waud with Will Carroll who scored his virgin match points for the society! Joe White and Paul Ruddlesdin had a magnificent match and ended up with a half point – Joe going round in 2 under par and Paul 2 shots under his own handicap…….
There were a few OE names that looked suspiciously like they may have come from other schools – even Bloxham, a Woodard school!
The evening meal was to the usual high standards of Chef Robert Foster and was rounded off with the ever popular Grand Marnier and White chocolate souffle!
We are now just 18 match points to 9 ahead in the series taking account of the draws since our first game in 1993. We have yet to miss a year in the 27 year consecutive run of matches.
Left to right – Steve Waud, Roger Grover, Jeremy Waud, Ian Henley, Hugh Price, Will Carroll and Ziggy Trezbinski.
