Letter from the Honorary Secretary
Dear OJ Golfer,
You may have seen that I was elected to be your new Hon Sec at the recent Society AGM. I am yet to learn what have done to deserve this fate but can only assume I must have been very evil in a former life.
Our thanks should go to Rick Holgate for his hard work in the role and I hope he enjoys his second retirement.
The golfing season is approaching fast and there are many opportunities for you to join in the meetings that we hold throughout the year. The biggest event is the Halford Hewitt in which we have been competing since 1930. This is a scratch foursomes event played at Royal Cinque Ports and Royal St. George’s Golf Club in early April under the stewardship of Jeremy Waud.
We then have our traditional meetings and matches throughout the year.
WEBSITE
I would encourage you to visit the recently revamped website www.ohjgs.com to see all the details. Your username remains the same but the password has been reset for all users to: ohjgs2018
The introduction of the new Match management module means:
- Members are able to indicate their interest in matches through the Matches & Meetings page of the website.
- Match Managers – the Match Manager is made aware of this, through an automated email.
- Match Managers will be able to download details of who has registered for their match. This can show email addresses, phone numbers, handicap if required etc.
- It can be used to contact team members with team list and match details etc.
This year will be the first year where events will be run by a match/meeting manager and all of them are bookable and payable online. Please register your interest as early as possible.
A word of welcome to our new Captain Christian Wimshurst. Christian is one of our youngest Captains in recent years and I am sure he will bring a younger outlook to the Society. He is arranging our Autumn Residential Meeting in South Wales and we are hoping to play at Royal Porthcawl on the trip. A world class venue which we hope will attract a large attendance.
We are keen to see some new players join the Society as we are lucky enough to play at some very highly rated courses where good golf is important but camaraderie is of equal value. Please try and make the effort to attend at least of the meetings/matches this year.
Whilst writing, I have arranged a day at the RAC for 16 of us on 8th June. Please let me know if you would like to attend.
Next year will see the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Society. We hope to be able to celebrate this landmark in style.
I wish you good golfing in 2018 and hope that we will see some new faces alongside the usual suspects during the year.
Graham Negus
