Halford Hewitt 2016
Another great year at the Hewitt, not great results to shout about though sadly as we drew a very tough Shrewsbury team in our first round resulting in a 4/1 early exit into the Plate competition. Our opponents in the Plate were just as impressive sadly as we were drawn against 8 times finalists Malvern! On a positive note our front pair of Paul Turrell and Mark Baldock ground out a fantastic win having come back from 3 down.
After our departure Shrewsbury made it to the semi final stage where those lost to the eventual runners up, Radley, who in turn lost in the final to Tonbridge.

Our full touring party of 19 was complimented by Graham Negus, Patrick McGahan, Rick Holgate, Rob McCowen, Dudley Stratford, John Fraser, Derek Fulcher, Keith Jenkin and Jim Fawcett.
It was particularly pleasing to field two new youngsters, George Atkins and Christian Wimshurst. They both played extremely well and have added both a new dimension and around 50 yards to the old guys tee shots!

Off the golf course there was much merriment with wine tastings before dinner at our Bears Wells base on Wednesday and Thursday nights before a great meal at the Frog and Scot bistro on the first night and our customary dinner at Dunkerleys hotel on the last night. We also enjoyed copious wines over dinner thanks to the generous arrangements from Jeremy waud and Jim Fawcett. Jim also again very kindly provided the team stash and this year OHJGS Halford Hewitt pens – red for the old hands and green for the two new boys!
And on the last day the sun came out causing some mid round clothing changes for Dan and George!
