Autumn Meeting Sept 2020
A great afternoon’s weather greeted us on arrival at Littlestone; bright sunshine with a moderate breeze. After a brief lunch and refreshments on the Terrace, twelve OJ’s ventured onto the Links and did battle for the Ethelreda Cup. I am sure all OJ golfers reading this will be overjoyed and deeply impressed to learn that the cup was won by Dudley Stratford at the tender age of 83 but still playing excellent golf albeit as long as someone finds his ball!! Mr Budge claimed runner up spot and your Captain came in third.
The entire entourage took refreshments afterwards and then made for hostelries in Deal for a splendid feast in Dine India and The Waterfront and a well-earned rest.
Saturday morning saw more bright sunshine and a more formidable breeze for the foursomes at RCP.
The Piggott Boxes were won by Messrs Holgate and Budge with a fine score of 38 with GJ and his guest, Nick Saines coming in second.
We were honored to lunch in the clubhouse and enjoyed a splendid 3 courses washed down with some fine wines.
The afternoon singles for the Lowe Cup was perhaps a round too far in the relentless wind and we did have a couple of “retired hurt” members!! Our Treasurer,Patrick McGahan, triumphed playing of a much amended handicap followed in by Derick Fulcher and GJ in third. Guest prize was awarded to Nick Saines.
A very good two days enjoyed by all. My thanks to Patrick and GJ for all their help with organising and my wishes to our Captain to be with regard to next year’s meeting.
A great fun two days taking in the delights of Littlestone on Friday afternoon and Royal Cinque ports in Deal all day on Saturday along with some great wines.
