Autumn Meeting 2022
We have just held the 2022 Autumn Meeting at Royal St. George’s and Royal Cinque Ports.
We were privileged to be hosted at these venues once again although the attendance was disappointing.
The meeting started with an excellent vegan free breakfast at George’s before setting out to take on the Open Championship Course. We played foursomes where Messrs Waud & McGahan scored 36 points.
A splendid lunch was had in the dining room washed down with some of St George’s excellent wine.
We then ventured out onto the famous links once again for some more foursomes. Midway through the afternoon we were hit with a 10 minute hailstorm which made life a little uncomfortable.
Adam Walker & Rob Huxford played well to score 36 points and were closely followed with 3 pairs scoring 33 points namely, Captain Alex Taylor & GJ, Waudo & Jeremy Williamson and Russell Ogden & Wim Bushell.
We aggregated the scores for the Lowe Cup and Jeremy Waud won closely followed by Rob Huxford.
We headed back to Dunkerleys where an excellent wine tasting session was followed by a dinner.
Saturday morning involved the short journey to Royal Cinque Ports where we played morning foursomes for the Piggott Boxes.
This was won by our Captain Alex Taylor and his young apprentice, Ed Fairfax with 32 points.
Lunch was held in the Jack Aisher Room.
We played singles in the afternoon for the Etheldreda Cup which was won by the Deal Board Member, Patrick McGahan, making good use of his local knowledge. Jeremy Waud came in second with 33. These scores were all the better when you consider that the wind gusted up to 40mph (not quite up to Hewitt conditions this year, 60 mph, but still very challenging)
Overall a very enjoyable weekend only marred by the low attendance.
Our thanks to Jeremy and Patrick for organising George’s and Deal respectively and to Adam & Wim for signing us in at George’s.
Attendees
Alex Taylor, Patrick McGahan, Rob Huxford, Russell Ogden, Richard Kelly, Dudley Stratford, Nick Budge, Jeremy Waud, Simon Clapham, Ed & Kevin Fairfax, Jeremy Williamson, Adam Walker, Wim Bushell and Graham Negus.
I believe our next year’s Captain, Matt Isepp, has some new venues lined up for next year. Watch this space.
