2019 Winter Meeting – Walton Heath

We were blessed with a lovely crisp and sunny day at Walton Heath for our winter meeting, albeit very wet underfoot having been closed on both Tuesday and Wednesday after heavy rain.

We were delighted to have a record turnout of 34 golfers, 22 members and 12 guests – most of them regulars. We were further treated to the surprise appearance on Keith Jenkin at lunch time having used his powers of telepathic communication instead of email or phone!

With an average handicap of 14 on the day the scores returned were quite respectable with top honours going to George Atkins playing off 3 and returning 38 points which also earnt him the Henderson Trophy for the first time adding his 35 scratch points to the 32 he scored at West Sussex making him a clear winner this year on 67 scratch points.

Dan Burstow had a very solid 36 points to take second place, Mark Baldock was 3rd with 35 points, Ed Welch also on 35 was 4th and Patrick McGahan came in 5th on 34 having missed putts all over the place!

A highly vocal and jovial lunch was enjoyed by all in the Fowler room and after prize giving many of the revelers headed back to a local wine cellar for more merriment, 14 bottles of fine wine, singing and dancing into the small hours!
